Irish men and women making history in World Shore Angling Championships this November
One week ahead of the 33rd World Shore Angling Championships, the Irish Federation of Sea Anglers (IFSA) clubs and membership are eagerly preparing to welcome 18 different countries to the southeast coast of Ireland. This major International event being held from 12– 19 November, 2016 is attracting approx. 250 competitors and 100 team officials from around the world and is comprised of 11 Ladies Teams and 18 Mens teams. Countries competing include Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, England, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Tunisia, Wales, Portugal and of course Ireland. The south east area is already a hive of activity as the competitors have being practicing for well over two weeks for the Championships.
It will all kick off with a wonderful opening ceremony this Saturday 12th November which begins with a parade of all competing nations which will see the flags of each nation hoisted and carried from Clayton White’s Hotel to the National Opera House, Wexford at 3.30pm. It will be followed by a ceremonial event at the Opera House attended by the Mayor, Local Councillors and TDs.
This is also a historic event as for the first time ever; Ireland will have a Ladies team competing in this World Championships.

This World Shore Angling Championships which will operate a Catch and release policy and will showcase the best Ireland has to offer to Shore Anglers as competitors battle to catch a wide variety of fish including Whiting, Codling, Flounder, Turbot ,Dogfish and other species. The event will have a significant economic impact on not only the town of Wexford but the country as a whole and is a wonderful showcase for Wexford, IFSA and the sport of angling. The championship will close with a Gala dinner and prize giving on Friday 18th in Clayton White’s Hotel.
The IFSA are delighted they have been chosen to host this event as it is both a great honour and a great opportunity to promote the southwest and indeed Ireland and its tourism product as a whole. This championship will be supervised by IFSA officers, stewards and volunteers. Launch of FIPS-M World shore angling chamionships
Irish Federation of Sea Anglers Launch World Shore Angling Championships in Wexford
Wexford, Friday 16 September. The Irish Federation of Sea Anglers launch the Senior World Shore Angling Championships for Men’s and Ladies at the Clayton Whites Hotel last Friday. The Championship held from 12 – 19 November this year is a major International Event and will attract 250 competitors from over 30 countries for a week long competition across many of the South East’s finest beaches. The event will have a significant economic impact on not only the town of Wexford but the country as a whole and is a wonderful showcase for Wexford, IFSA and the sport of angling as a whole.
The 2016 event will be historic for many reasons, but most notably as for the first time ever, Ireland will have a Ladies team competing in this World Championships.
In attendance at the launch were Minister Paul Kehoe TD, Deputy Mayor Tony Dempsey, IFSA President Pat Walsh, Frances Kinsella from Event Ireland and representatives from Wexford County Council and both the Irish Men’s and Ladies Teams. Pat Walsh welcomed all to the launch, noting ‘it is a very exciting time for Our Ladies, their first time representing Ireland in the World Shore Championships in the history of our Federation’. Deputy Mayor Tony Dempsey commented that team sports are hugely important and with the angling tradition in Wexford he is delighted to welcome 250 competitors from so many different countries to the region. Frances Kinsella thanked IFSA for bringing this event to Ireland and said ‘We have taken to calling ourselves the event island and I think with good reason – Ireland is a living stage. We make an event an experience and we look forward to proving this in November when our extended World Shore Angling family arrive to Wexford and Irelands Ancient East’.

Master Angler Boat 2016
Congratulations to David McCormick winner of the IFSA Master Angler Boats Competition at Cork Harbour over the weekend of the 1st to 3rd of July.
The Master Angler Competition pits the winner of each clubs internal league against each other. The master angler winner will be the captain of the world team in the following year. The next 9 anglers, positioned 2nd to 10th qualify for the world team fish off. They join the other 20 anglers qualifying in a ‘Fish Off’ pool from the previous year.The fish off selects the 2nd to 5th members of the World team plus a substitute.

Findlater, Interprovincials, HN boat 2017
Congratulations to Paddy Swan on winning the Findlater (All Ireland Open boat) on 14th of May. Also congratulations to Pat Shortt on winning the Shalimar trophy for Lady anglers. Leinster won the interprovincials on home ground in Wexford.
Congratulations to Pat Swan, Liam Ocallaghan, John Dennehy, Brian Whelan, Graham Garvey and Dan Lynch on making the Home Nations Boat team (for 2017) on the 15th of May in Wexford.

Leinster boat league 2016
Leg one took place yesterday, 17th April in Kilmore Quay. 43 fished, 1 from Ulster, 2 from Munster and 40 from Leinster. Conditions were ideal and fishing was fairly good considering it was the first of the season. A good mixture of wrasse, cuckoo wrasse, pollock, coalie, cod, whiting, dabs, pouting and ling were caught, and one lucky boat had a black bream & bass.
