The 2019 World Shore Games takes place in South Africa this month. The world Shore championships are being held on the west coast in Langebann from 10th to 14th of February for both senior men and ladies.
The 2nd World Championship Shore Angling Masters took place in Albufeira Portugal. This Championships is in its second year and Team Ireland is attended as they did last year.
This October the Under 16s achieved great results at the World shore angling championships in Portugal.
As the IFSA Interprovincials approached in February, everyone was a little nervous of the weather forecast of a spell of freezing weather over the duration of the competition.
Great prizes to be won – the Fish & Film competition is to encourage young people to spread the word about fishing. Junior fishing clubs, youth clubs, projects and centres are invited to apply to the competition by taking film footage of their fishing adventures and promoting it online.
Results of the Home Nations fish offs/interprovicials (Shore) held in Antrim hosted by Ulster Provincial Council over the 17/18/19th of February 2017. The Irish Federation of Sea Anglers invited all friends, family of the teams and committee, all the rank and file anglers of IFSA clubs and indeed the general public to celebrate at the headquarters, Clayton Whites Hotel for the awards ceremony. A double gold does not happen very often. Anthems, Medal awards, speeches from Minister Paul Kehoe TD, IFSA President, Pat Walsh & Chairman Micheal Quinn and Fédération Internationale de Pêche Sportive – Mer officials were at the event.
It all kicked off with a wonderful opening ceremony on Saturday 12th November which began with a parade of all competing nations which will see the flags of each nation hoisted and carried from Clayton White’s Hotel to the National Opera House, Wexford. It was followed by a ceremonial event at the Opera House attended by the Mayor, Local Councillors and TDs.
This World Shore Angling Championships which operated a Catch and release policy and showcased the best Ireland has to offer to Shore Anglers as competitors battled to catch a wide variety of fish including Whiting, Codling, Flounder, Turbot, Dogfish and other species. The event had a significant economic impact on not only the town of Wexford but the country as a whole and is a wonderful showcase for Wexford, IFSA and the sport of angling as a whole.
The IFSA were delighted they were chosen to host this event as it was both a great honour and a great opportunity to promote the southwest and indeed Ireland and its tourism product as a whole. This championship was supervised by IFSA officers, stewards and volunteers. The IFSA would like to acknowledge the help and support of Fáilte Ireland, Inland fisheries Ireland, Wexford County Council, National Opera House, Gardaí, Coastguard/RNLI, Civil Defence and many volunteers without which this event would not have been possible.
